Purpose:
Responsible for operating and maintaining lathe machines to produce precision metal parts and components. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong technical skills, and the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications. The operator ensures that all products meet quality standards and are produced efficiently.
Responsibilities:
Machine Operation:
- Set up and operate lathe machines to perform turning, drilling, threading, and other machining operations
- Adjust machine settings to achieve desired precision and accuracy
- Monitor the machine during operation to detect issues and make necessary adjustments
Reading and Interpreting Drawings:
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications
- Determine the appropriate machining operations and sequence of operations
Tool Selection and Maintenance:
- Select and install appropriate cutting tools and attachments for each job
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of the lathe machine to ensure optimal performance
- Replace worn or damaged tools as needed
Quality Control:
- Inspect finished parts to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards
- Use measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify dimensions and tolerances
- Document inspection results and maintain records of production output
Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving:
- Diagnose and resolve issues with the lathe machine or machining process
- Implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence of problems
Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
- Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations
